Steel targets last longest (and stay safest) when they’re matched to the right shooting discipline and set up correctly. Below you’ll find care and usage guidance for each target type we supply—Centre Fire, Rimfire, and Airgun—including the steel specification and a few simple tips to help reduce wear, improve visibility of impacts, and keep your range setup consistent. Always follow the recommended calibre/energy and minimum distance guidance for your specific target.
Centrefire -10mm AR500 Steel
Built for high-energy rifle use, our 10mm AR500 targets are designed to take repeated impacts when used within the recommended calibre and distance limits. For best longevity and safety, mount targets so they can move on impact and angle slightly downward to direct fragments into the ground. Inspect regularly for excessive pitting or damage caused by use outside the advised limits, and replace any worn chains, shackles, or fixings as needed.

Rimfire (6mm AR450 Steel)
Our 6mm AR450 rimfire targets are ideal for .22LR and 17.HMR use where you want a durable plate without the weight of centrefire steel. As with all steel targets, correct setup matters: hang freely where possible, avoid rigid mounting, and maintain a slight downward angle. Keep an eye on hanging points and hardware, and retire targets that show deep cratering from being shot too close or with unsuitable ammunition.
Airgun (3mm Mild Steel)
Our 3mm mild steel airgun targets are intended for sub-12 ft/lb air rifles and pistols. Because mild steel isn’t abrasion-resistant like hardened plate, surface rust is normal over time, especially if targets are stored outdoors or used in wet conditions. We recommend a quick coat of spray paint every so often: it helps protect the surface and makes it much easier to see exactly where the pellet has struck, so you can track groups and adjust your aim.
